About the study

We think that that investigating human milk could help to reduce breast cancer risk.

BECS is a UK Research and Innovation-funded scientific research project that will systematically investigate the composition of human milk to find clues that will help discover cancers sooner, and understand more about how lactation works.

We are currently piloting the study and recruiting the first few hundred participants. Over time we aim to study milk from over 15,000 women in the UK.

BECS aims to understand how the breast responds to environmental exposures over a lifetime, and uncover how breastfeeding reduces the risk of breast cancer in later life.
