Like most similar websites, this site uses cookies. On this page we explain more about cookies and how we use them. By using this website and agreeing to this policy, you consent to our use of cookies in accordance with the terms of this policy.

What are ‘cookies’?

According to the Information Governance Officer (ICO), cookies are small pieces of information, normally consisting of just letters and numbers, which online services provide when users visit them. Software on the user's device (for example a web browser) can store cookies and send them back to the website next time they visit.

Cookies can be useful because they allow a website to recognise a user’s device. They are widely used in order to make websites work, or work more efficiently, as well as to provide information to the owners of the site. Without cookies, or some other similar method, websites would have no way to ‘remember’ anything about visitors.

Cookies on the BECS website

We use both session cookies and persistent cookies on this website. Session cookies are generated during your each visit and they expire as soon as you leave the website. These cookies will not be stored beyond your visit. Persistent cookies are stored on a user’s device in-between sessions. These can be can allow the preferences or actions of the user across a site (or across different websites) to be remembered.

How are cookies used in the BECS website?

Cookies do not contain any information that personally identifies you, but personal information that we store about you may be linked, by us, to the information stored in and obtained from cookies. The cookies used on the website include those which are strictly necessary cookies for access and navigation, cookies that track usage (performance cookies), remember your choices (functionality cookies), and cookies that provide you with targeted content or advertising.

Most cookies you will encounter when browsing the BECS website are considered 'third party' cookies. This simply means the BECS website has used a feature supplied by an external provider, Twitter and Youtube which sets the cookie. Third party cookies are not inherently more or less risky than first party cookies. The only thing to bear in mind is that the external provider, not BECS, determines what type of information is stored and how it is used.

The most common type of cookie used on BECS's web site is set by Google Analytics, which provides anonymous statistical data to us to show usage trends and to aid in making decisions about what types of content are most popular.

We may use the information we obtain from your use of our cookies for the following purposes:

  1. to improve the website’s usability
  2. to analyse the use of the website
  3. in the administration of the website

We do not use cookies to:

  • Collect any personally identifiable information
  • Collect any sensitive information
  • Pass data to anyone else

You can request the list of the most up to date cookies from the BECS team at any time by emailing us at becs@milk-research.com. In doing so, we can send you the list of cookies from our latest audit for your consideration.

What to do if you don’t want cookies to be set or want them to be removed?

If you do not want to receive cookies, you can also change your browser settings on your computer or other device you’re using to access our services.  Please note that BECS website may not work properly without cookies. You can usually switch cookies off by adjusting your browser settings to stop it from accepting cookies. Doing so however will likely limit the functionality of our website (and a large proportion of the world’s websites) as cookies are a standard part of most modern websites.
